New Delhi: The President on Friday appointed Karnataka High Court Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph judge of the Supreme Court.
With this appointment, the strength of judges in the apex court has gone up to 24 against the sanctioned 26, including the CJI. Mr. Justice Joseph (61), who hails from Kerala, will have a tenure of three years and seven months. He was appointed judge of the Kerala High Court in July 1994 and after about a month he was shifted to the Delhi High Court. He was sent back to the Kerala High Court in September 2001, and after serving there till March 2005, he was elevated Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court. In January 2006, he was transferred to Karnataka. Dinakaran to become Karnataka CJJustice P.D. Dinakaran of the Madras High Court is to be elevated as the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court shortly.
