Most Delhi colleges to come out with a second cut-off list

NEW DELHI: If present indications are anything to go by, most Delhi University colleges will come out with a second cut-off list this coming Tuesday for the various courses on offer.

Hans Raj College, which has made 525 admissions in the past two days (Friday and Saturday) against 891 seats available, may have a cut-off list for all the programmes barring English (Honours) and B. Sc. Computer Science (Hons).Hindu College, which has admitted 297 students so far, may not have a second cut-off only for Political Science (Hons).

“By and large, we feel there will be a second cut-off for all the courses. That’s how we would like it to be. Even last year, we went up to the fourth cut-off list in some courses. We are quite happy with our slow and steady mode,” said Hindu College Principal Kavita Sharma on Saturday.

Indraprastha College for Women has already filled 420 seats against the sanctioned strength of 700, with a lot of admissions for Psychology (Hons) and Economics (Hons) in the first two days.

“In Psychology, Philosophy and Economics there does not seem to be much scope for a second cut-off list. We may or may not come up with a list for B. Com. (Hons). Courses like English (Hons), Hindi (Hons), Sanskrit (Hons) and B. A. Mathematics (Hons) will certainly have a second cut-off,” said IP College media coordinator M. M. Yogi.

Shri Ram College of Commerce has already crossed the half-way mark in Economics (Hons) and B. Com (Hons). “We have done 80 admissions against 94 seats in Economics and 271 in B. Com (Hons) against the sanctioned strength of 384,” said Principal P. C. Jain on Saturday.

A lot of colleges feel Monday -- the third day for admissions on the basis of the first cut-off list -- will be crucial in deciding whether they will display a second cut-off list or not.

Miranda House Principal Pratibha Jolly said on Saturday: “We will be in a better position to comment on the second cut-off list on Monday. As of now, we have done 455 admissions against 639 seats. In Political Science (Hons), the number of admissions is on par with the seats available, while we are almost full in Computer Science (Hons).”

“We have already over-admitted students in History (Hons), both B. A. and B. Sc. Mathematics (Hons) and Botany (Hons). But we generally do take more students in the Science courses keeping in mind the future withdrawals throughout the year if the students make it to courses like engineering or medicine elsewhere,” Dr. Jolly added.

At S.G.T.B. Khalsa College, a second cut-off is unlikely for B. Com (Hons), Economics (Hons), English (Hons) and Physics (Hons).

Maitreyi College, which has taken 301 students so far, may close admissions in Economics (Hons) and B. Sc. Mathematics (Hons) after Monday, while Gargi College may do the same in History (Hons) and Philosophy (Hons).

At Lady Shri Ram College, the early trends suggest that while there has been a good response to courses like History (Hons), Psychology (Hons) and Statistics (Hons), there have been few takers for B. Com (Hons) and English (Hons) after the first cut-off list.
