Vijayawada
Traditional touch: Students perform ‘kolatam’ at the investiture ceremony in NSM Public School in Vijayawada on Saturday. — VIJAYAWADA: It was an occasion to indulge in some fun, but also to get seriously reminded of the responsibilities of a student leader. The occasion was the investiture ceremony of the ‘cabinet’ of N. St. Mathew’s Public School at Patamata, and the students who were entrusted with the responsibility of leading the school, a class or a house were present in full strength to receive the honours from their principal and the chief guest. As their parents watched them from the sidelines with pride, students wearing blazers and colourful dresses participated in the march past carrying the school flag and the flags of various houses. The honour of leading the schoolboys by becoming School Pupil Leader (SPL) went this year to K. Sai Krishna Prasad, a student of ‘A’ section of Class X, while T. Akshara, student of ‘B’ section of the same class, has been chosen as the SPL for girls. In addition, secretaries and assistant secretaries of seven clubs and captains and vice-captains of four houses were installed. School Principal Pratap Reddy explained the significance of a school cabinet and presented to them badges. Colourful cultural programmes, including classical, western and folk dances, were performed to perfection by students. Income-Tax Commissioner R.C. Pramanik, the chief guest, reminded the students of the importance of aiming high. “Defiance in defeat and magnanimity in victory is what is important in life,” he said, quoting British author and Prime Minister the late Winston Churchill. At KCP Siddhartha Adarsh Residential Public School at Kanuru in the evening, fun and frolic marked the freshers’ day celebrations. Students actively participated and showcased their talents through dances and songs. A power point presentation on the e-guru concept of teaching was well received by the parents and students. Principal S. Chandrasekaran, addressing the gathering, said that the school emphasises on the overall development of the student’s personality and felt that such events would help the new students to gel well with the institution and overcome home sickness.
