NEW DELHI: While movies are the ultimate stress busters and the most reliable source of entertainment, film festivals provide the platform to concur, grasp, argue, challenge and ignite one’s imagination. Bearing these factors into consideration, the tenth edition of Osian’s-Cinefan Festival of Asian and Arab Cinema that aspires to break down the artistic hierarchies of the popular and the highbrow movies to re-invent a creative film culture will be held in the Capital from July 10 to 20. Commemorating ten years of its inception this year, the festival will have several interesting new features next month. The special focus for this year’s festival will be the unique relationship between writing and cinema explored through film screenings and seminars. Comprising novels in adaptation, this section will be the foundation of a new literary festival, introduced at Osian’s-Cinefan for the first time. It will include readings and deliberations between writers and film-makers. AwardsIn addition to the annual award for writing, the festival will bestow an additional award -- the Osian’s Lifetime Achievement Award for contribution to cinema, which is being presented to the distinguished film-maker Mrinal Sen. The writer’s award, rechristened as the Aruna Vasudev Lifetime Achievement Award, for writing on cinema will be conferred on Jose “Pete” F. Lacaba.
