Gulbarga
Jubilant: BJP workers celebrating the victory of party candidate Shashil G. Namoshi from the North-east Teachers’ Constituency, in Gulbarga on Saturday. GULBARGA: Shashil G. Namoshi has retained the North-east Teachers’ Constituency for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), defeating Congress candidate Annarao Ajagunda by a margin of over 9,200 votes in the biennial elections to the Legislative Council. This is Mr. Namoshi’s third victory from the constituency. He polled 10,533 votes of the 11,983 valid votes and was declared elected on the basis of the first preference votes. DedicatedMr. Namoshi dedicated his victory to the teachers in the constituency who had reposed their faith in him once again. He said that he would not fail them and would always fight for their cause both inside and outside the Council. All the other candidates forfeited their deposits. The performance of the Congress was worse than in the previous four elections when the party put up a tough fight, and the results depended on the second and subsequent preference votes. A total of 780 votes were rejected. Except for the Congress candidate, who polled 1,326 votes, none of the other defeated candidates crossed double digits in the number of votes secured.
