Chitradurga: Vinay, a nine-year-old boy died of suspected dengue on Friday. He was admitted to Basaveshwar Hospital with high fever four days ago. Suresh Babu, the doctor who treated Vinay, told The Hindu that the boy was brought to the hospital in a critical condition. Though he did not confirm that the death was due to dengue, he said that the symptoms indicated it was dengue. Dr. Babu added that the boy had lost a substantial amount of platelets, which was the reason for his death. The doctors recommended that the boy be shifted to a hospital in Davangere. Vinay died on the way to Davangere, sources said. Health Department officials said that they had sent a blood sample to the Vijaynagar Institute of Medical Sciences, Bellary, to ascertain the cause of death.
