VCK activist killed, 24 cadres injured in 2 accidents

VILLUPURAM: An activist of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi was killed in an accident in the early hours of Saturday. Twenty four party cadres were also injured in another accident on Saturday.

According to the police, the cadres were going home after attending the Dalit Christians’ political awakening conference organised by the VCK here on Friday.

A van carrying 17 partymen hit a stationary lorry at Kappiampuliyur near Vikkiravandi. V. Muthu (30) of Ooralpattinam, Tindivanam, died on the spot. Eleven of the injured have been admitted to the Villupuram Government Hospital and five have been referred to the Puducherry hospital.

In another accident, eight cadres travelling in a van suffered injuries when the vehicle hit the parapet wall of a bridge near the Pilloor tank in Ulundurpet.

The injured have been admitted to the government hospitals at Villupuram and Ulundurpet.
