NEW DELHI: Six Vishwa Hindu Parishad activists were arrested when a demonstration at Jammu and Kashmir House here on Saturday in protest against the controversy over allotment of land to Amarnath Yatra Shrine Board turned violent. According to the police, the activists were arrested for rioting and assaulting public servants.
The protesters had gathered outside Jammu and Kashmir House around 11 a.m. Starting from outside Hotel Taj Mansingh, the protesters marched towards Jammu and Kashmir House on Prithviraj Road shouting slogans against “separatist elements” in Kashmir.
The activists resorted to stone-throwing and damaged a Delhi Police bus parked nearby. The police used water cannons to disperse the mob.
