VISAKHAPATNAM: Chief Commissioner of Customs, Central Excise and Service Tax of Visakhapatnam Zone, P.N. Vittal Dass, has expressed satisfaction that the zone has surpassed the revenue targets on all the three fronts -- Excise, Customs, and Service Tax and pointed out that the Service Tax collections had a quantum jump from over Rs.400 crores to Rs.600 crores. Speaking at a seminar on `Recent trends in service tax and CENVAT credit rules’ organised by the Andhra Chamber of Commerce, a Chennai-based organisation, here on Saturday, he predicted that the coming years would be much brighter with Gangavaram and Krishnapatnam and also on account of the new service “ right to use tangible goods” which was expected to get a good revenue. Presiding over the function, Chamber’s president G. Sudhakar explained that the chamber had been serving the industry and commerce in all fields by inviting experts to seek advice on various issues faced by them. He announced that they would shortly open their office at Visakhapatnam to cater to the needs of the coastal Andhra members of the chamber, particularly those involved in import/export activities. Chairman of the Andhra Sugars Mullapudi Harischandra Prasad was present.
