NEW DELHI: “Samprokshanam” of Sri Venkateswara Mandir, better known as Tirupati Balaji Temple, here in R. K. Puram will be performed on July 4 after completion of renovation work undertaken by Venkateswara Mandir Society. Sthapatis, experts in temple architecture, have carried out the renovation of the temple established in 1979. From Sunday there will be a series of holy rites conducted by agama pandits specially brought from South India. “Poorvangam” (preliminary invocation), rituals and yagnas will be performed both in the morning and evening from June 30 to July 3. Special “thirumanjanam” will be held for all the deities on the afternoon of July 3. There will be “poornahuti” both in the morning and evening on these days. Recitation of Vedas and “divya prabandham” by the pundits will be held simultaneously. According to Mr. Vijayaraghavan of the renovation committee, the temple strictly follows the “pancharatra agama” in conducting the rituals. The “rajagopuram” was constructed in 1992 along with a new “sannidhi” of Sri Lakshmi Varahar. Besides the main deity Lord Srinivasa, there are sannidhis for Sri Mahalakshmi, Sri Andal, Sri Hanuman, Azhvars and Acharyas besides Sri Sudarsana. The temple observes several festivals including those celebrating the birth anniversaries of Acharyas, Sri Ramanuja and Sri Vedanta Deikan, which are marked by street processions and discourses by well-known scholars. The annual Thiruppavai Utsavam is another major festival celebrated during the month of Margazhi (December-January).
