Court order upheld
Staff Reporter
MADURAI: The Madras High Court Bench here has confirmed the conviction, 10 years rigorous imprisonment and Rs.50,000 fine, imposed on a person who was caught with 1,359 counterfeit currency notes of Rs.100 denomination at Tallakulam here on July 7, 2000. Dismissing the criminal appeal filed by the convict, Justice A. Selvam said that he could not find even a flimsy ground to interfere with the well merited judgement passed by the Principal Sessions Court here on September 25, 2003.
According to the prosecution, the convict had attempted to transact one of the fake currency notes at Tallakulam and persisted upon an individual to give him even a lesser amount in exchange for the note.
On a complaint given by the latter, the police arrested the accused.
