TTD security guards stage dharna
Special Correspondent
TIRUPATI: The ex-servicemen working as security guards in TTD staged a dharna for nearly two hours on Friday in front of the TTD’s Administrative Building protesting against the government’s decision to replace them with personnel belonging to the ‘Special Protection Force’.
Addressing district and the city unit CITU leaders who are spearheading the agitation said that the decision would render 1,300 security guards jobless. They have been engaged in a dedicated service for many years unmindful of the alleged ‘harassment’ and ‘under-payment’ from the private security agencies who engaged them for the work.
While making it clear that they were not against making fresh recruitments to the post, the trade union leaders said that they strongly opposed retrenchment of the existing staff for the purpose.
They also demanded the immediate filling up of the 500 vacant posts of security guards in the TTD. The agitating guards led by the CITU and other leftist party cadres took out a procession through the streets.
