BANGALORE: The Minister for Wakf, Minorities Welfare and Haj, Mumtaz Ali Khan, on Friday said that the Karnataka Haj Committee violated the guidelines of the Central Haj Committee, New Delhi, on the selection of pilgrims. Addressing presspersons here, he said that the committee was not maintaining accounts properly and there were many complaints of irregularities against it. The director of the minorities department had conducted an inquiry into the decisions taken by the committee headed by Zulfikar Ahmed Khan alias Tipu and had submitted a report to him. Dr. Khan said that he had brought this to the notice of Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, who would take a decision on the matter soon. The committee was an elected body and he had no powers to supersede it, he added. He said that the department was looking into the misuse and encroachment of Wakf properties in the State and would initiate legal action. The 2.6-acre prime land opposite Lal Bagh had been encroached upon and action would be initiated to recover it, he said.
