Special Correspondent

‘Collapse of the law and order machinery in Haryana’

‘Misdeeds of the Haryana police has ruined the image of the State’

An audience with President Pratibha Patl in New Delhi sought

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Government has dismissed from service Inspector Jai Singh, the suspended Station House Officer of Nissing Police Station in Karnal district, with immediate effect for his alleged involvement in a rape case.

Congress leadership

Meanwhile, Haryana Janhit Congress leader Kuldeep Bishnoi in a statement here on Saturday alleged that the misdeeds of the Haryana police under the present Congress leadership had ruined the image of the State not only in India but also abroad.

He alleged that police atrocities on destitute women had desecrated the very foundation of democracy.

The common man was feeling unsafe due to these incidents which were now occurring frequently.

There was a collapse of the law and order machinery in the State as was evident from the Sarita rape and suicide case recently, the killing of Bhiwani Municipal Council Chairman Nand Lal Chawla this past week, the killing of a young villager of Bhiwani in a “fake encounter”, the rape at the Nissing police station, suicide by a panchayat member in Kurukshetra and the mass suicide by a Pehowa family due to “non-cooperation of the police”, charged Mr. Bishnoi.

He said his party had sought an audience with President Pratibha Patl in New Delhi to apprise her of the “law and order situation” in Haryana and waiting for an appointment.

PTI adds: Meanwhile Haryana Police has decided to carefully examine personal reputation and service record of police officials before posting them at sensitive positions.

This was stated by Director General Police, Rajiv Dalal while reviewing the functioning of districts Superintendents of Police Ambala and Rohtak ranges at a meeting held at Madhuban in district Karnal on Saturday.

He directed Superintendents of Police to undertake screening of records of police personnel and deal sternly and promptly with undesirable elements.

He also urged them to visit all police stations and police posts within next one week either by conducting surprise checks or through pre-announced visits.

They should minutely review the functioning of these units, he added.

He directed the range Inspectors Generals of Police to extensively tour in the districts falling within their ranges and interact with police men at all levels.

He also instructed them to ensure speedy disposal of complaints, prompt registration of First Information Reports, quick arrest of bail jumpers, bad characters and payroll jumpers.

Meeting

Others who also attended the meeting included Additional Directors General Police, V B Singh, V N Rai, Range Inspectors General of Police, K K Sandhu of Ambala and V Kararaja of Rohtak Range.

The directions were issued in the wake of three policemen being dismissed following charges of rape against them, official sources said.
