Thiruvananthapuram
Thiruvananthapuram: Kesavadasapuram ward councillor M.Vinodkumar (Mali) has been selected for the first M.P.Padmanabhan award for the best councillor. Chairman of the M.P.Padmanabhan Memorial Trust C.P.John and secretary M.P.Saju told reporters here on Saturday that Mr.Vinodkumar was chosen for the award for his 20-year stint in the Corporation council and the record margin in the elections. They said Mr.Vinodkumar’s close relations with each family in his constituency had made him a key link between neighbours, promoting intimacy and warmth amid the chaos of urban life. Mr. John observed that the councillor had, through his tireless efforts, contributed to the development of the city and helped the deprived sections. The award comprises a cash prize of Rs.10,000 and a statuette. It will be given away at a function to be held here on June 30 in connection with the eighth death anniversary of former Mayor M.P.Padmanabhan. Communist Marxist Party leader M.V.Raghavan will present the award. Cine artiste Jagathy Sreekumar will be chief guest at the function.
