City lorry owners to join strike

VISAKHAPATNAM: Lorry owner associations in the city affiliated to the State association have decided to take part in the `all-India indefinite lorry bandh’ from the midnight of July 1.

The decision was taken at a meeting held here on Friday which was attended by Operators Welfare Association’s honorary president KVS Murthy, president Peela Appalaraju and secretary Coromandel Appalaraju. The meeting decided to exempt essential commodities from the strike. The demands were stopping of “plundering” the owners in the name of toll tax, exempting vehicles such as mini vans from tax etc.
