CUTTACK: Former State advocate general and a lawyer of repute Indrajit Ray passed away on Saturday morning while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. Ray was admitted to the hospital in a critical condition two days ago. The 75-year-old lawyer who served as State advocate general from 1995 to 2000 is survived by wife, two daughters and a son. His body was cremated later in the day, family sources said. An efficient lawyer and well-known in political circles, Ray had become very close to former chief minister J.B.Patnaik. He became the AG when Patnaik became chief minister for the third time in 1995. Ray not only came to the rescue of his political boss alone but provided legal advice to all the eminent Congress leaders of the State during his illustrious practice in Orissa High Court for almost three decades. Ray however, was forced to put in his papers in controversial situations when J.B.Patnaik and Congress lost the elections in 2000.
