TD leaders of Telangana look to core panel for ‘positive’ stand on Telangana Telangana sentiment strong only in three districts: Mahender Reddy
Arrow marking: TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu with a headgear made of adda leaf trying his hand at archery at Paderu in Visakhapatnam district on Saturday. PADERU: Several leaders of the Telugu Desam Party from Telangana made a beeline to north Andhra to meet party president N. Chandrababu Naidu in his ‘Mee Kosam’ yatra to discuss the impact of the party proposed to be floated by former Home Minister T. Devender Goud. Among them were former Union Minister S. Venugopalachari, Rangareddy TDP president P. Mahender Reddy, former Zilla Parishad Chairman K.S. Ratnam and Secunderabad MLA Talasani Srinivas Yadav. When questioned by reporters, Mr. Naidu declined to comment on Mr. Goud’s plans. Sources said that the opinion in the party is divided over the separate state demand. “Many leaders from Telangana are putting pressure on Mr. Naidu to expedite a decision by the five-member core committee set up by TDP leaders to take the views of party cadre,” a senior leader from North Andhra said. Mr. Venugopalachari, when asked about his own stand, said he was solidly behind the party’s view on Telangana and hoped that the core committee would take a favourable decision soon. He said Mr. Goud was causing desertion of cadre from TRS and would not have much impact on the TDP. Mr. Mahender Reddy said Telangana sentiment was strong only in two to three districts. Goud flayedSpecial Correspondent from Hyderabad adds: Senior TDP leaders on Saturday objected to criticism against their party by T. Devender Goud at the intellectuals’ meeting convened by him here to chalk out his future course of political action for securing a separate Telangana. At a press conference, deputy floor leader Nagam Janardhan Reddy lashed out at TRS ideologue Jayashankar for heaping ignominy on the late NTR and on Mr. Naidu and said it was unfortunate that Mr. Goud had failed to object to comments against the leaders who were responsible for his political status today. He remarked that nothing about the day-long affair had any signs of a commitment to statehood.
