Fulfil promises made to Dalits: CPI(M)
MADURAI: Members of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Friday staged a demonstration here demanding fulfilment of promises made to Dalits of Uthapuram.
They wanted public spaces made accessible to the Dalits, rights given for worship and a bus shelter. Central Committee member W.R. Varadarajan said the demolition of a portion of the wall to construct a pathway by the State government was only a token relief and wanted it to create two more pathways.
He said untouchability was not a menace only to the Dalits and called upon democratic and progressive forces to come forward to eradicate it. — Staff Reporter
