Domestic help remanded to CBI custody in Aarushi case

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Raj Kumar, the domestic help of Rajesh Talwar’s family friends, the Durranis, was remanded to 14-day Central Bureau of Investigation custody by a special court in neighbouring Ghaziabad on Saturday. This was to facilitate the recovery of evidence in the Aarushi-Hemraj murder case.

Special Judicial Magistrate Sapna Mishra said Raj Kumar had told the investigating agency that he could help recover the cell phones of Aarushi and Hemraj and also lead them to the “khukri” (a curved knife) used in the double murder.

The accused in his statement under Section 161 of the Criminal Procedure Code had confessed to having hidden the cell phones at a secret place after switching them off and also offered to help the agency in recovering them along with the “khukri.” In its plea, the CBI said it needed the custody of Raj Kumar to recover the phones, murder weapon, clothes and to establish the veracity of Raj Kumar’s statements.

T-shirt with blood stains

Raj Kumar was arrested by the CBI on Friday based on the findings of several scientific tests conducted on him. Also, CBI Joint Director (Special Crime) Arun Kumar had said that a white T-shirt seized from Raj Kumar’s room had stains of human blood and was sent for advanced tests.

The court directed the agency to take Raj Kumar to a government hospital for a check-up and also allowed him to be accompanied by a lawyer at a safe distance during his interrogation. In an official release, the agency said: “He will now be produced before the court on July 11.”

Dr. Talwar’s compounder Krishna was remanded to judicial custody till July 11 by the court on Friday.
