NEW DELHI: A Tihar Central Jail constable and his two accomplices have been arrested in Karol Bagh here on charges of extortion. Constable Sandeep Sharma, posing as a police officer, and his accomplices entered a jewellery workshop on the first floor of a building in the early hours of the day and threatened to implicate its employees in a case of receiving stolen jewellery. The employees -- Amol and Sachin -- handed over about 300 gm of jewellery and jumped off the building. The two sustained injuries and a case was registered at the police station. During investigation, the police scrutinised the closed-circuit television footage and got the registration number of one of the two Santro cars used in the crime. Subsequently Mukesh of Kewal Park was arrested and he purportedly confessed to his involvement in the crime. Sandeep Sharma and Golu were later arrested at his instance. The police claim to have recovered the jewellery and impounded both the cars used in the crime.
