AI flight to U.S. cancelled

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: The Air-India flight AI 127 from Bangalore-Mumbai to Chicago scheduled to leave Bengaluru International Airport at 1 a.m. on Saturday, was cancelled due to a technical snag, leaving about 100 U.S. bound passengers stranded at the airport for more than 13 hours till mid-morning on Saturday.

The passengers, who were to board the flight were asked to be at the airport at 10 p.m. on Friday. The passengers who arrived were quickly asked by the airline to check in and wait in the departure lounge.

The first announcement was made by the airline at 12.20 a.m. stating that the flight would be delayed due to a technical snag. After that, there was a long silence for more than two hours said K. Kathireshan, a software engineer bound for Chicago.

He said: “At 2.30 a.m., an official of the airline walked up to a group of passengers and said their flight was cancelled and they could all go home.” The official only cited technical snag as the reason but did not say if the airline had made any alternative arrangements to travel to Mumbai. .

When asked about the delay, Air India Senior Manager Corporate Communications V. Chandrashekar said: “It is true that there was a delay in the Bangalore-Mumbai flight which connects various destinations in U.S. from Mumbai. Since it took time to rectify the technical snag in the aircraft the Air India made arrangements to accommodate the passengers on different flights during the course of the day starting from 6 a.m. on Saturday.”
