“Allot area for fishing zones”

PUDUCHERRY: Member of Parliament M. Ramadass has urged the government to allot an area near Murungapakkam and Chunnambar rivers for fishing zones.

A project report should be prepared and submitted to the Union Fisheries Ministry for funds, he said in a statement on Saturday.

The government should should utilise the funds and schemes of the National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad, to increase the inland fish production, Mr. Ramadass said.

Due to pollution of inland water sources, several fishermen had been affected by diseases, he added.
