Rajdhani Express to run thrice a week New timetable to be released today Thiruvananthapuram: The new railway timetable would come into effect from Tuesday. According to this, the 6303 Ernakulam-Thiruvananthapuram Vanchinad Express would depart from Ernakulam at 5.30 a.m. At present, the inter-city train, popular among the office-goers, departs from there at 6.05 a.m. The 6382 Kanyakumari Express would depart from here at 8.05 a.m. instead of its present timing, 8.10 a.m. Railway sources said although the new trains that were announced in the budget had found mention in the timetable, commencement of the operation of these new trains was yet to be decided. New trainsThe Kochuveli-Bangalore Garib Rath Express, the Kochueveli-Amritsar Express, the Kochuveli-Dehradun Express and the Shornur-Nilambur Express were announced in the Union Railway Budget this year. As the Kochuveli terminal does not have the infrastructure facilities to handle new trains and the Central station being fully saturated, the chances of starting the new trains soon were bleak. DevelopmentRailway sources said Southern Railway had initiated steps to handle at least 15 Mail and Express trains at Kochuveli within a year by setting up facilities at a cost of Rs.29 crore. As part of the project, Railways would set up an island platform (to receive trains on both sides), two more pit lines and a sick line. With this, the number of platforms at Kochuveli would go up to three. Already, a pit line and two platforms have been set up in Kochuveli The increase in the frequency of the 2431/2432 New Delhi-Thiruvananthapuram Rajdhani Express from a bi-weekly train to a tri-weekly train would be given in the new timetable. This was one of the 11 trains whose frequency had been increased to cater to the needs of long distance commuters. The new comprehensive timetable for the South Zone comprising of Southern, South Central, South Western and Konkan Railways would be released in Chennai by Union Minister of State for Railways R. Velu on Monday.
