Current water level in Hemavathy reservoir

Staff Correspondent

HASSAN: Although the rains started early in the district, following sparse rainfall in its catchment area (Malnad districts), the Hemavathy reservoir did not receive the anticipated water as a result of which the present storage is only 14.332 tmc ft.

Superintending Engineer of the Hemavathy Reservoir Circle Srirangaraju said that since Saturday, the water position had improved and that at 7 p.m. on Sunday, it recorded a level of 2,890.5 ft/msl as against a maximum capacity of 2,922 ft/msl. “It needs another 31.5 tmc ft of water for it to overflow. The inflow is 5,000 cusecs while 500 cusecs of water is released to the river.

Total capacity

The total capacity of the reservoir is 37 tmc ft. To release water for crops, the minimum storage in the reservoir should be 27 tmc ft.
