THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Chief Wildlife Warden of the State has asked the owners of captive elephants to ensure that their animals are implanted with micro-chips for identification and registration. The elephants should also be brought under insurance coverage, he said in a press release on Sunday. Elephants without micro-chips and insurance coverage would not be allowed to be used for temple festivals or brought to public places, he said. The insurance coverage should be such as to provide a compensation of up to Rs.2.5 lakh to the family of any person dying in its attack or any person permanently incapacitated by its attack.
