Bangalore: The Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST) has chosen 14 scientists and engineers for the State awards for 2006 and 2007. N. Rudraiah, honorary professor of Mathematics, Bangalore University, and K.J. Rao, honorary professor, Solid State Structural Chemistry, Indian Institute Science, have been chosen for the Sir M. Visvesvaraya Award for 2006 and 2007 respectively, for their lifetime achievements in the field of science and technology. Dr. Raja Ramanna State Scientist Award has been given to B.G. Moolimani, Vice-Chancellor, Gulbarga University and M. Shadakshara Swamy, president, Jagadguru Renukacharya Education Society for their service in the field of science education. Sir C.V. Raman Young Scientist Award has been given to Srikanth Sastry, Associate Professor, Theoretical Science Unit, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Bangalore (in the field of Physical Science, 2006); Uday B. Muthane, Additional Professor of Neurology, National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences, Bangalore (Medical Science, 2006); N.B. Ramachandra, Professor, Department of Studies in Zoology, University of Mysore (Life Science, 2007); and S. Krishna Prasad, scientist, Centre for Liquid Crystal Research, Jalahalli, Bangalore (Physical Science, 2007). Prof. Satish Dhawan Young Engineers Award has been awarded to K. Prakash, Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering, Mysore (Engineering Science, 2006); G.S. Bhat, Professor, Centre for Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, Indian Institute of Science (Earth Science, 2006); Gopalan Jagadish, Assistant Professor, Department of Aerospace Engineering, Indian Institute of Science (Aerospace Science, 2006); and T.V. Ramachandra, Senior Scientific Officer, Centre for Ecological Sciences, Indian Institute of Science (Engineering Science, 2007). M.K. Kokila, Reader, Department of Physics, Bangalore University, has been chosen for Dr. Kalpana Chawla Young Women Science Award for 2006. The awardees were chosen based on the recommendation of the committee, headed by C.N.R. Rao, constituted by the State Government. The awards will be presented in July-August, according to M.K. Surappa, secretary, KSCST.
