VIJAYAWADA: The VTPS Flyash Brick Manufacturers’ Association has demanded that steps be taken to check corruption in the allotment of flyash to small brick makers and ensure that 20 per cent of it be reserved for them. Flyash Building Material Manufacturers’ Association (FABMAS) president N. Kalidas, addressing a press conference here on Sunday, said that the Vijayawada Thermal Power Station (VTPS) was denying the ordinary flyash brick manufacturers of the material required for a month on one pretext or the other. While each unit required 90 tonnes of flyash (three tonnes a day) the VTPS authorities were sending them away saying that no ash was available after releasing part of the requirement. Mr. Kalidas alleged that the VTPS officials, including the security personnel, were receiving bribes regularly from cement companies that were taking 80 per cent of the flyash.
