Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Government will distribute free text books to class IX to XII students as a part of its efforts to provide qualitative education in Government schools. This would put a burden of Rs.28 crore on the State exchequer, an official release said. Under the scheme, free books would be distributed to 13.31 lakh students, including girls from all sections of the society. This is an important step towards making girls self-dependent. However, the scheme would benefit only those boys who belong to reserved categories and backward classes, the release said. Three lakh students belonging to the below poverty line families have also been included in the scheme. The distribution of free text-books would begin division-wise from July 15. The field staff has been entrusted with the responsibility of distributing the books. Officers on dutyThe block development education officer concerned would collect the consignment of free text-books from the depot of Madhya Pradesh Text Book Corporation. In tribal-predominant areas, block and district level officers of Tribal Welfare Department would also lend a helping hand in distribution of works. At the district level, monitoring of the scheme would be undertaken by District Education Officer. -- PTI
