Check inflation

It is quite alarming that the rate of inflation has touched all time high of 11.42 per cent in the last 15 years. General public has been facing severe hardship due to sky-rocketing prices of commodities. Farmers are ending their lives due to shortage of electricity and water and on the other hand consumers are facing lot of inconvenience while purchasing the items such as edible oils, cooking gas, petrol, and diesel The Union government seems to be helpless to control the present situation.

In these circumstances, the Centre is more worried about signing the nuclear deal with America, which is a big joke on face of people of the country. For a common man, the deal does not hold any importance. This is high time for political parties and government in particular to bring down the rising inflation rate. If they fail, they will have to pay heavy price in the election year.

Career counselling

It is gratifying to know that a career counselling programme was conducted by The Hindu Education Plus at Nellore a few days ago with several co-sponsors for clearing the doubts of students, who had qualified in EAMCET 2008 and were ready to embark on the most important journey in their careers. Such workshops at the beginning of their career will undoubtedly help students to grasp the mastery of the subjects. Since The Hindu is publishing Orissa Edition for the benefit of readers of Orissa, it is suggested that similar programmes may be conducted at Bhubaneswar, Berhampur, Sambalpur and Rourkela, where the passed out students of Joint Entrance Examination Test would be immensely benefited. Those passed out students have shown keen interest for the programme.

BJP’s campaign

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is the first political party to kick off its election campaign even before Election Commission formally announces the date for next general elections. Are cadres of BJP prepared to work for the party in the elections? The party has been getting disintegrated for quite sometime. Many towering leaders deserted the party during last few years.

There is not even any emotive issue, which could be cashed in on by the party. The journey seems to be an arduous one considering the fact that party workers have to start from scratch. They will have to convince people that they are a party to reckon with.Lal Krishna Advani will be addressing party workers at Rourkela. But does he still carry charisma to attract people towards the party. This time, Atal Behari Vajpayee would not be in the scene. Hence, BJP should pray that rise in prices of essential items continue to remain high and the conflict between Communists and Congress should widen further.
