Kannada organisations continue protests in Chamarajanagar

Correspondent

CHAMARAJANAGAR: Members of the Kannada Rakshana Dal along with other Kannada organisations, burned effigies symbolising the Tamil Nadu Government and the Union Government at Nrupatunga Circle here on Sunday. They urged the Centre to immediately stop the drinking water project taken up by the Tamil Nadu Government at the disputed Hogenekkal island.

The protesters raised slogans against the Centre and the Tamil Nadu Government. They sought the intervention of the Centre in restarting the joint survey work on the disputed land. Addressing the protestors, the president of the Rakashana Dal, Auto Mahadevaswamy, said that the Union Government had adopted a “step-motherly” attitude towards Karnataka with regard to according classical language tag to Kannada and giving jobs to Kannadigas in the Railways. He said this was proved once again with regard to the Hogenekkal issue.

The leaders of the various Kannada organisations urged MPs from the State to co-operate with the State Government in “getting justice”. They called upon the State Government to give a call for a Karnataka Bandh to draw the attention of Centre.

The members of the Kannada organisations have been staging protests here since the past five days.
