In the limelight: TV actor Rani.

From stirring spicy curries to currying laughter, she handles different roles with certain aplomb. Chitralekha nee Rani, the host of a host of shows on different channels is surely catching the eyes of viewers with her anchoring these days.

Her tryst with camera began with modelling for a newspaper fashion column and the rise has been steady. A few roles on the silver screen — including ‘Evare Athagadu’ — later she turned golden for the small screen with a series of shows.

Apart from anchoring, she did make some forays with emoting for camera with roles in popular serials such as ‘Padmavyuham’ on ETV.

For the same channel, she did segments for the highly successful show ‘Sakhi’ and then was seen on Zee Telugu for programmes such as ‘Kokila’, ‘Laughter.com’ and ‘Yuva’. These days she is there doing ‘Just For Fun’ on Maa TV dishing out rip-roaring comedy by teaming with the humour star Sattanna.

Her cookery show ‘Maa Oori Vanta’ has garnered wide viewer base and figures among the most watched on Telugu telly.

Dress code

“I am extremely busy these days and shooting almost 28 days a month,” says Chitralekha, whose recent movie appearances include ‘Classmates’ and ‘Parugu’. If one thing the pretty anchor is particular about, it is the dress code. “I stick to proper dress sense and do not accept any offer that goes against it,” she says. A neat presentation with apt costumes happens to be the demand.

Her appearances are there on the news channel TV5, devotional channel Samskruti. And the Rani of Telugu TV is presently busy also with a temple-based programme for Sri Venkateswara Bhakti Channel.
