CHENNAI: There is a proposal to supply Rs.200-a-bag domestic cement to people against the production of the family card instead of building permits, the State government said on Saturday. Under this arrangement, 200 bags would be given for constructing houses. To carry out repairs, 50 bags would be supplied without insisting on any documents, an official release stated. “No problem in supply”Asserting that there was no problem in supplying domestic cement to people, the State government said Civil Supplies Corporation godowns had a stock of 8,371 tonnes as on Thursday. In view of low stock, regional managers of the Corporation got in touch with cement manufacturers and ensured the sale of cement. Following were the details of sale month-wise: January – 1,953 tonnes; February – 20,569 tonnes; March – 25,964 tonnes; April – 33,727 tonnes; May – 37,119 tonnes and June (up to June 26): 35,008 tonnes. Reports deniedThe government denied reports in a section of the media that the supply of domestic cement had been stopped.
