A Bhojpuri film starlet and a Nigerian arrested in Delhi; over 3 kg heroin seized

NEW DELHI: A Bhojpuri film starlet and a Nigerian national have been arrested by the Special Cell of the Delhi Police for their alleged involvement in an international drug trafficking racket being run from Pakistan.

The police claimed to have seized over 3 kg of heroin worth about Rs.3 crore in the international market from them.

The Special Cell received a tip-off that a woman who had gone to Jammu to collect a consignment of heroin would return to the Capital to deliver it to a Nigerian near a metro station in Uttam Nagar on Saturday.

A trap was laid and both the accused were arrested with the consignment by a team under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police L.N. Rao.

During interrogation, the duo identified themselves as Hema, a resident of Uttam Nagar, and Pius Onwaso Okolonta, a Nigerian national. Hema told her interrogators that she had worked in some Bhojpuri films.

‘Lure of easy money’

She came in contact with Pius a few days ago through one of his friends whom she had met at a bar recently. Lured by the prospect of making some easy money, Hema was initiated into the business.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Alok Kumar, the accused disclosed that the network was being run by Zorawar, who operates from Lahore in Pakistan. His conduit named Rummy receives the consignments in Jammu and supplies it further to his foreigner clients through agents like Hema. A hunt has been launched for him.

The police have found that Pius had come to India on a six-month tourist visa but overstayed.
