PUDUCHERRY: Members of the Scheduled Caste People Social Justice Movement will go on a hunger protest on Tuesday to press a number of demands including proper implementation of reservation in employment. Movement’s president A. Ramamurthy told reporters on Monday that the government had neglected reservation for the community in employment. The departments such as tourism and public works had not followed reservation for SCs, he said. “Head constables and Sub-Inspectors belonging to Scheduled Caste have not been deployed for law and order duties,” Mr. Ramamurthy said. The movement demanded the entry point to Puducherry at Gorimedu should be named after Ambedkar. A statue for poet Thamizhvoli should be erected at Karuvadikuppam and his books should be nationalised, he said. “The government’s welfare schemes should reach the community. For this, offices of the assistant director should be set up at Bahour and Villianur,” Mr. Ramamurthy said.
