GREETING THE CADRES: DMDK leader Vijayakant at a rally on Monday.
Villupuram: Actor-turned-politician Vijayakant, MLA and founder leader of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam on Monday said that to prevent private professional colleges from collecting exorbitant fees the government could remit the fees and later recollect the same from the candidates.
Speaking to reporters after a demonstration against the spiralling inflation near the railway junction here on Monday, Mr. Vijayakant the Centre was using the India-U.S. civilian nuclear deal issue as a ruse to divert the attention of the people from the impact of inflation. The threat of the Left parties to come out of the United Progressive Alliance remained only on paper, he said. The snapping of ties between the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the Pattali Makkal Katchi was an issue concerning two political parties. It was a suspense whether the DMDK would enter into an alliance or not, he said. On the interlinking of rivers within the State, Mr. Vijayakant asked how the government would explain the lapse in the implementation of the Hogenakkal water supply project for which an agreement was signed in 1998.
