PUDUCHERRY: State president of Bharathiya Janata Party (BJP) M. Visweswaran on Monday said he has removed National Council Member R.V. Swaminathan and two others from the primary membership of the party as a disciplinary action. Talking to reporters, he said Mr. Swaminathan was involved in anti-party activities and a notice explaining the reasons for removal had been sent to him. They have been removed from the primary membership of the party for six years, he added. ‘No rights’However, Mr. Swaminathan later told a press conference that the State president had no rights to remove the National Council member as per the party rules. He said as per the party rules, a State Disciplinary Action Committee can take action only against units subordinate to it and individuals other than members of the National Council and Members of Parliament. “We will go to Delhi in a couple of days and inform the senior party persons regarding the situation,” he said.
