BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Monday directed the State Government to file a comprehensive report on the projects it had already completed and those that were in the offing to improve connectivity from Bangalore city to the Bengaluru International Airport at Devanahalli. A Division Bench comprising Justice Rammohan Reddy and Justice Jawed Rahim passed the order on several public interest litigation (PIL) petitions challenging the closure of HAL airport for civil commercial operations and the poor connectivity to BIA. The Bench said there was a need to provide dedicated roads to the new airport without compromising on the safety of pedestrians and people who lived on either side of the national highway leading to the airport. It asked the Advocate-General to furnish a comprehensive project report and contact the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) so that it could come up with a viable and sophisticated project. The Centre told the court that a report by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) on the traffic projections at the new airport would be ready by July second week and that the Centre, State, AAI and BIAL would meet once the report was ready. The Bench adjourned hearing on the case to July 18. JuvenilesA Division Bench comprising Justice V. Gopala Gowda and Justice Ravi Malimath on Monday too to task the State Government for not implementing the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act. The Bench, which was hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) petition by Ullash, seeking proper implementation of the Act, asked the Government to file a statement on the steps it had taken to implement the provisions of the Act. The petitioner said juveniles were beaten up in police stations. DismissedA Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph, and Justice A.N. Venugopala Gowda dismissed a PIL petition by E. Ram Mohan Chowdry of Bellary challenging the validity of the notifications issued by the Chief Justice commencing the Circuit Benches in Dharwad and Gulbarga. In a related matter, a Division Bench comprising Justice S.R. Bannurmath and Justice Ravi B. Naik reserved for orders a PIL petition by A.V. Amarnathan challenging the inauguration of the Circuit Benches in Dharwad and Gulbarga in the month of “Ashada”. Tribal people A Division Bench comprising Justice Gopala Gowda and Justice Ravi Malimath on Monday directed the State to explain why it could not rehabilitate at one time all the 1,300 tribal people who were living in Nagerhole National Park, Hunsur, to Sollepura.
