Diesel scarcity affecting normal life: CPI(M)

Staff Reporter

Party leader criticises government for not solving the problem

ANANTAPUR: District secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) G. Obulakonda Reddy has criticised the government for its inaction in solving diesel scarcity. It is also adding to the prices of commodities burdening people further.

The recent hike in petro prices has burdened the people of the district by about Rs. 135 crore a year. As if that was not enough the oil companies were creating scarcity of diesel by rationing the supplies and looting transporters and other vehicle users in the name of premium diesel, he said here on Monday.

Additives added

Against the price of Rs. 37.86 per litre the filling stations were supplying only premium diesel for Rs. 40.11 per litre.

The oil companies were resorting to the premium loot by adding 10 paise worth additives to every litre of diesel to make it premium and fleece Rs. 2.25 extra per litre from people. Instead of controlling such irregularity, the Centre was encouraging the oil companies and was planning to introduce rationing system in diesel supply, he complained.

The diesel scarcity was having severe impact those who eke out a living by running autos and other transport vehicles.

It was also causing price rise of essential commodities, vegetables and others goods. The CPI(M) leader asked the Centre to ensure proper supply of diesel.

Water supply hit

He said that the diesel scarcity was also resulting in denial of water supply to towns like Hindupur, where people purely depended on supply through tankers.

Instead of supplying tankers everyday, the civic authorities were supplying water only twice a week.
