Five power units of 1,070 MW each planned Will raise production by 2,019 MW in 2008-09 JAIPUR: The Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam on Monday requested Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) to hasten the construction of five power project units of 1,070 MW each at Giral, Chhabra, Suratgarh and Kota which would raise the State’s power production capacity by an additional 2,019 MW in 2008-09. Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Chairman and Managing Director S.K. Kalla, reviewing the progress of work at a meeting with BHEL officials here, pointed out that hydro-tests in the boilers of four of the five units had been completed, while the boilers would be lit up between August and November this year. Mr. Kalla said BHEL was supplying the equipment to the main plants and also carrying out their installation. He expressed the hope that the work would be completed in the current financial year so that the new units can start production. BHEL Execuctive Director M.L. Saha said that the power projects in the State were high on the priority list of the company and assured that all attempts would be made to complete the work on time. The representatives of BHEL’s workshops in Chennai, Trichy, Ranipet, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Bhopal, addressing the meeting, explained technical aspects of the construction work.
