Kuttiadi scheme to be commissioned in May

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The 100 MW Kuttiadi additional extension scheme would be commissioned in May 2009, Electricity Minister A.K. Balan informed the Assembly on Monday.

Responding to a calling attention motion by P. Jayarajan (CPI-M), the Electricity Minister said the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) would issue tender notices for small hydel projects that could together generate another 100 MW of power. The KSEB was moving ahead with a perspective plan to generate an additional 3,000 MW over the coming 10 years.

Mr. Balan said the work on the 400 kV power highway linking Mysore to Areekode was on and that the government was in receipt of the expert committee report on the 400 kV line linking Koodankulam to Kochi. The government would allay the fears of farmers on the path of the 400 kV line through discussions. From Kochi, the line would be linked to Areekode and then to Madakkathara and Mysore, he said.

The Minister said the hearing in the case relating to the 163-MW Athirappilly hydel project would be completed in July. Negotiations were on for setting up a 3,000 MW thermal project in association with Orissa and other States from which the State would receive 1,000 MW of power and work on detailed project reports of 26 projects, which would together help generate 500 MW of power by 2011-’12, was on, Mr. Balan said.

Technocity

Responding to a calling attention motion from M.A. Vahid (Congress), Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran said the government would ensure full cooperation from the local people when acquiring land for the proposed Technocity at Kazhakuttam near here.
