Cabinet expresses deep sympathy for the families of slain policemen

HYDERABAD: The Cabinet has decided to provide a special package of assistance to the families of the Greyhounds who lost their lives during the combing operations in the Chitrakonda reservoir area of Orissa.

Information Minister A. Ramnarayan Reddy told reporters that the package provides for allotment of 200 sq yards of house site each to the families of the slain Greyhounds in Ranga Reddy district or at any other place of their choice in the State.

This is in addition to payment of an ex-gratia of Rs. 5 to 10 lakh each, depending on the rank of the deceased, a government job to one eligible member and free education to children in the family, he added.

The initiative for providing house sites came from Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy who expressed deep anguish at the attack.

The Maoist attack figured high on the agenda of the Cabinet which expressed deep sympathy for the families of the slain policemen on Monday. Deliberating on the tragedy for nearly an hour, the meeting condemned the Maoists for killing the Greyhounds.

It placed on record its appreciation of the exemplary courage shown by the Greyhounds in undertaking combing operations in an inaccessible area.
