All-round condemnation of attack

HYDERABAD: UPA chairperson and AICC president Sonia Gandhi expressed anguish over the killing of Greyhounds by CPI Maoists near Balimela reservoir in the Sileru.

A press release issued by the Chief Minister’s Office said that she telephoned Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Monday and asked him to rush search and relief operations for the missing policemen. She wanted him to extend maximum possible assistance to the kin of the policemen killed in the ambush.

Ms. Gandhi conveyed her condolences to the bereaved families. Kakinada staff reporter adds: Meanwhile, TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu condemned the attack. He said proper care should have been taken by government and victims themselves.

Speaking to reporters at Kotananduru in Kakinada on Monday during `Mee kosam’ tour, Mr. Naidu described the attack as unfortunate.

He expressed his condolences to families of those killedand wished the injured speedy recovery.

Hyderabad special correspondent adds: Condemning the attack, the Lok Satta Party stressed the need for equipping the police with resources and technology to meet challenges in a changing world.

Party president Jayaprakash Narayan said in a statement that there is no place for violence in democracy and pursuing “eye for eye” policy would “leave every one blind.” Maoists should avail themselves of democratic rights for mobilising people and get their problems solved, he said.
