Uttar Pradesh
Letter sent to Union Home Ministry last Saturday The officials have completed their tenure at the Centre: U.P. LUCKNOW: With the Central Bureau of Investigation’s probe into the Noida double murder case poised to reach its climax, the Uttar Pradesh government has demanded the recall of Arun Kumar and five other IPS officers to their parent cadre. The six are among the 10 Uttar Pradesh cadre officers on deputation to the CBI. A letter seeking their return was sent to the Union Home Ministry last Saturday An IG rank officer, Mr. Kumar, who is heading the CBI probe into the sensational murder case, is posted as Joint Director in the Special Crime Branch of the CBI. The five other officers are Rajni Kant Mishra, IG; Tilottima Verma, DIG; Tanuja Srivastava, DIG; D.K. Thakur, SP; and Bhanu Bhaskar, SP. ‘Not related to Aarushi case’State Home Secretary Mahesh Gupta on Monday denied that the move to recall Mr. Kumar was related to the probe into the Aarushi Talwar and Hemraj murder case. He said it was the job of the CBI to assign the responsibility of inquiry to its officers. Mr. Gupta said officers were sent on Central deputation initially for three years, which could be extended as per the guidelines framed by the Government of India. As these officers had completed their tenure at the Centre, the Home Ministry had been urged to revert them to their parent cadre. “There is no other reason,” he said. The four other Uttar Pradesh cadre IPS officers on deputation to the CBI are: the agency’s Director, Vijay Shankar, who is due for retirement soon; Y.P. Singh, Joint Director; and Zaki Ahmed and Sujit Pandey, both SPs. Though Mr. Gupta denied that no letter from the CBI seeking for Mr. Kumar’s extension was received, the timing of the move had raised eyebrows.
