Officers who played key role in Gujjar stir rewarded in reshuffle

JAIPUR: In a major bureaucratic reshuffle, the Rajasthan Government has transferred 38 IAS officers, especially rewarding with plum postings some of the officers who played a key role in the recent Gujjar agitation.

Principal Water Resources Secretary S.N. Thanvi – who was camping at Bayana for a fortnight as the State Government’s chief negotiator with the Gujjar leadership during the crisis – has been appointed the new Principal Home Secretary in the orders issued on late on Sunday night.

The present incumbent, V.S. Singh, who was getting the hints of Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje’s displeasure, will now be in charge of Mr. Thanvi’s former department and will also look after the Indira Gandhi Canal Project.

Bharatpur Divisional Commissioner Niranjan Arya, whose handling of the Gujjar stir was also appreciated in the administrative circles, has been shifted as Jaipur’s Divisional Commissioner.

Naresh Pal Gangwar, who was rushed from Jodhpur to Bharatpur as the Collector during the agitation, has been sent back as the Jodhpur Collector, while T. Ravikant and Navin Jain, removed from Bharatpur and Karauli after the police firing that killed scores of people, have been shifted to Jhunjhunu and Rajsamand, respectively.

Jaipur Development Authority Commissioner D.B. Gupta has been transferred as Principal Secretary, Local Self and Urban Development Department. The new JDA Commissioner, Deepak Upreti, had carried out a number of development works in Ajmer as the Divisional Commissioner. The pilgrim towns of Ajmer and Pushkar are high on the priority of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) in the State.

Pravin Gupta, currently posted in the Chief Minister’s Office, has been appointed the new Jaipur Collector, replacing Akhil Arora, whose transfer has been necessitated by the Election Commission’s guidelines disallowing the posting at the hometown during the polls. Mr. Arora will now be the Chief Executive Officer of Jaipur Municipal Corporation.

Sikar Collector Manju Rajpal, whose role in the implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) was widely acclaimed when she was posted in Dungarpur, will now look after the scheme’s execution all over the State as the Director, NREGS.

Principal Women and Child Development Secretary Alka Kala has been promoted as Additional Chief Secretary, Women’s Empowerment and Welfare. Atul Kumar Garg has been shifted as Chairman and Managing Director of Rajasthan Financial Corporation, and Ravi Mathur as Principal Higher and Technical Education Secretary.

G.S. Sandhu has been posted as Principal Public Health Engineering Secretary, Parvinder Singh as Principal Food and Civil Supplies Secretary, Ajit Kumar Singh as Managing Director, Rajasthan Small Industries Corporation, Manohar Kant as Industries Commissioner, B.L. Arya as Social Justice and Empowerment Secretary and Khemraj Chaudhary as Bharatpur Divisional Commissioner.

B.N. Sharma has been transferred as Managing Director, Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Investment Corporation (RIICO), Sudarshan Sethi as Panchayati Raj Secretary, S.S. Rajvi as Member, State Civil Services Appellate Tribunal, Samir Singh Chandel as Employees’ Welfare Secretary and Alok as Special Secretary, Finance (Expenditure).

Among the Collectors, P.L. Agrawal has been shifted to Nagaur, Kuldeep Ranka to Udaipur, Anand Kumar to Bharatpur, Kunjilal Meena to Sikar, Samit Sharma to Chittaurgarh and Ravi Kumar Surupur to Jaisalmer.

Ashwini Bhagat has been posted as the Special Secretary, Water Resources, Ajitabh Sharma as Director, Elementary Education, Dinesh Kumar as Special Secretary, Higher and Technical Education, Gayatri A. Rathore as Additional Commissioner, Commercial Taxes, K.K. Pathak as Director, Secondary Education, Ambarish Kumar as Deputy Secretary, Finance (Expenditure-I) and P. Ramesh as Officer on Special Duty, Personnel Department.
