SRINAGAR: Kashmir Valley witnessed a complete shutdown for the eighth consecutive day on Monday in protest against the transfer of land to the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board. Shops and business establishments, government offices, educational institutions and banks were closed. Traffic was off the road. Though the situation was generally peaceful, protests continued to shatter the calm in some areas, injuring 27 people. A large procession was taken out in Srinagar downtown, led by hardline Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Geelani. The protesters raised slogans and demanded revocation of the order. In Sheeri, Janbazpora and Khanpora in Baramulla, the demonstrations took a violent turn as police fired teargas shells, injuring over a dozen people. In Sholipora Budgam some people were injured. Reports said peaceful demonstrations were held in Kupwara.
