Chitradurga ZP officials to face legal action

Staff Correspondent

Chitradurga: Members of the Chitradurga Zilla Panchayat unanimously passed a resolution on Monday for initiating legal action against chief planning officer G.R. Omkarappa and administrator Anandmurthy for allegedly issuing a work order for the midday meal scheme without permission.

The matter came up for discussion during the zilla panchayat’s general meeting here. In the inquiry report submitted by Chief Executive Officer H.P. Prakash, both officials were charged with improperly discharging their duties.

The matter came up during the last meeting when a Social Welfare Department official said that the department had received an order from the zilla panchayat permitting the distribution of refreshments to students residing in government hostels, under the Akshara Dasoha Scheme.

Taking an exception to this order, members demanded to know how such an order could be issued when there was no such provision made by the Government. The department official said the order was signed by Mr. Omkarappa. The members then demanded an inquiry into the issue. In the meeting on Monday, several members also raised the issue of lack of power supply in many villages in the district. Venkatappa Nayak, a member, said that despite the zilla panchayat paying electricity charges to the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) and clearing pending bills, many villages did not have their connections restored.

Members claimed that the BESCOM had not repaired damaged transformers. To this, the official concerned said that electricity supply to the villages would ensured by July-end.
