DAVANGERE: In order to prevent migration of sportspersons from the State to other parts of the country, the State Government is contemplating bringing in a new sports policy soon, said Gilihatti D. Shekar, Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs. Talking to presspersons here on Monday, the Minister said that the Government had come to know that many players from Karnataka had migrated to other States owing to lack of encouragement and infrastructure, and petty politics in the selection process. He said steps would be taken into encourage sportspersons to remain in the State. The Minister warned that stringent action would be taken against those who indulged in petty politics in the selection process.The State Government had decided to provide the required infrastructure to sportspersons in the State, he said. Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa might allocate Rs. 100 crore for the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs this year, he added.
