Loan waiver to benefit 1.04 lakh farmers

KARIMNAGAR: The crop loan-waiver scheme announced by the Union government would benefit about 1.04 lakh farmers with a waiver of Rs. 140 crore in loans collected from the District Cooperative Central Bank (DCCB) in Karimnagar district.

Releasing the list of beneficiaries of the scheme from the DCCB in Karimnagar town on Monday, AP Markfed chairman Ponnam Prabhakar said that the government had strengthened cooperative banks by providing financial assistance under the Vidarbha package and the Vaidyanathan Committee recommendations.

He said that they had provided fresh loans to about 10,000 farmers in the district during this year. Karimnagar DCCB chairman K. Ravinder Rao said that the 99,000 small and marginal farmers of 127 Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS) benefited from the loan waiver scheme.

He said that they would correct mistakes, if any, if farmers were not benefitting from the scheme.

He informed the farmers that they could lodge their complaints with the grievances cell of the Bank.

He also informed that the Bank would hand over the loan waiver certificates to the farmers from July 8 onwards.
