Sheila inaugurates Urs camp

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit inaugurating the Urs camp on Monday.

NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit inaugurated a three-week Urs camp at Burari grounds in North Delhi on Monday for pilgrims of Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Dargah in Ajmer.

The camp will provide various amenities to the pilgrims on their way to Ajmer Shareef via Delhi.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Dikshit observed: “The shrine in Ajmer is a symbol of communal harmony and brotherhood. Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti was an eminent Sufi saint whose devotees and followers are spread across a number of countries. ” She laid emphasis on the need for imparting modern education in “madrasas” apart from traditional education. Ms. Dikshit also said that the Urdu Academy in Delhi had been rendering substantial contribution to promotion of Urdu and that sufficient funds would be sanctioned for this purpose as the language was a part of the ancient culture of Delhi.

She informed that the Urs camp had been shifted from its earlier location at the Red Fort grounds keeping in mind the large number of devotees . “The camp at Burari is offering free stay, water, electricity, washroom facilities, medicines and ambulance for the pilgrims. Rail booking counters and post-office facilities have also been arranged . A number of Rajasthan Roadways buses are also available for easy transit to Ajmer,” she added.
